ABOUT TON

TON* is a ceramic workshop and teaching facility in Zirl, Austria that was founded in 2021 by Lena Butschek and Peter Montgomery.

Both trained and worked in potteries around the world and have 25 years experience making pots between them. They share a passion for good design and craftsmanship.

Lena initially trained as a language teacher and found her way to making pots in her early twenties, going on to study ceramics at Ortweinschule Graz and training and working at potteries in Japan, Italy, Scotland, Spain and England.

Pete studied Fine and Applied Arts at Ulster University and has worked in studios in England, Denmark, Australia and Ireland. He is a graduate of the DCCOI Ceramic Skills and Design Course in Kilkenny and served an apprenticeship with Svend Bayer.

Lena and Pete share an enthusiasm for making considered and useful pots. It is their aim to produce pots that are a joy to behold and use and to share their passion and expertise with other people.
